A group of us from knit night have signed up for the Ravelry Summer of Socks knitalong. There are various contests including most socks knit, and best socks on vacation photos. While I'm not going to fool myself into thinking I have any chance at the most socks knit, there may be some other categories for me. But winning doesn't really matter, it's more about being inspired and challenged by other sock knitters, trying out new patterns, and, of course, attempting to make a dent into that sock stash!
In preparation for the knitalong, which starts on the first day of summer, I've been trying to finish up what I've got on the needles. The Monkey Kaw Kaws are done!
The second Leafling is still on the needles, but it's getting there. I love the squishy heel on this sock. (Pardon the blurry photo.)

One of my DH's happy places is Freedom Meat Locker in Watsonville (and quite frankly, it rates pretty high up there for me too.) It's a meat market and deli -- meat lovers would say, heaven-on-earth.
I took a cupcake decorating class from Karen Tack, the author of Hello, Cupcake! to learn how to make some of her whimsical cupcake creations. With just frosting, store bought candies and cookies, anyone can make these playful cupcakes.
I love this time of year when the weather gets warmer, the outdoor grills are fired up, farmer's markets are in full swing, and it's just wonderful to be outside.

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?
I'm having trouble with this one. Who can remember ten years ago? I'm thinking I was just promoted at my day job, taking my career way too seriously and killing myself with the business travel and stress. Now I'm older, hopefully a little wiser and making more time for knitting.

clean up around the house in anticipation of friends coming over later for a bbq
make potato salad

TJ's baked jalapeno cheese crunchies, Tim's jalapeno chips, chocolate, edamame (had to throw in something on the healthy side)

give a lot of money away to people who have the brain power and vision to make our world a better place
take care of loved ones, including making sure DH no longer has to work, but I'm certain he wouldn't be able to help himself
collect Manolos, Choos, and Louboutins

The garden is a never ending source of design inspiration, and always changing.
I've been using those not so pretty plastic stitch markers forever -- even those funky looking pink things. I've never been crazy about them, but didn't think I had any choice until I started seeing photos of cute pretty stitch markers that knitters were using on Ravelry. I was almost too embarrassed to post a photo of my Clapotis because I was using the plastic markers. Then I realized I could purchase some prettly little markers, or better yet, break out those beading supplies that have been collecting dust in my closet since the early nineties, and make my own!
